Discipleship Definition – What Is It?
“To be a learner” is the literal answer to the question, “What is a discipleship definition?” Dictionary.com defines a disciple as:
“Disciple” is a word that is not generally considered a part of everyday vocabulary in contemporary society, but it gets tossed around a lot in Christian circles. You might hear phrases like: “called to be disciples of Christ,” “make disciples of all nations,” “walk as a disciple.” The concept seems very intimidating, and to a person who has not spent a lifetime in church, but who wants to know God, it can be confusing.
Discipleship is not just learning scriptures but putting into practice, on a daily basis, what we have learned and seen through scripture, and what it means to follow Christ.
Sunday School falls under the Discipleship umbrella which is stated in our vision statement as one of our purposes to teach the Word of God. Sunday School is a small group that gather on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am based on age or gender. Through Sunday School, classes systematically study the entire bible over time.
On each 5th Sunday of the year, Corporate Sunday School is held for all adult classes in the Sanctuary and children and youth classes are held in the Chapel.

Small Groups fall under the Discipleship umbrella which is stated in our vision statement as one of our purposes to teach the Word of God. A small group is a Christ-centered community of believers who intentionally gather to grow in their relationship with Jesus and one another. Rooted in biblical model of relational discipleship, small groups serve as a vital expression of the church. In these groups, people engage in authentic fellowship, prayer, teaching, accountability, and service. Through life-on-life connections, members support, encourage, and equip one another to become more like Christ in every area of life. Small groups are not the end goal, but a strategic and relational means through which believers live out the “one another” commands of Scripture, reflect the nature of God’s community, and advance the gospel in their homes, churches and beyond.
To cultivate biblical community that transforms lives through intentional relationships, spiritual growth, and gospel-centered living~ empowering believers to love, serve, and follow Jesus together in everyday life.
This ministry meets Monday-Saturday, times vary.

Vacation Bible School (VBS), falls under the Discipleship umbrella which is stated in our vision statement as one of our purposes to teach the Word of God. VBS is a fun-filled program that our church offers, during the summer to connect with the children and families in our community. Vacation Bible School is an outreach meant to bring in people who don’t normally attend church and to teach them the gospel. Additionally, at GSMBC we provide an on-campus experience that encourages our church families to bring their friends to church for the purpose of sharing the good news about Jesus. With a four-five-day time frame, VBS offers a chance to pull out all the stops and create an unforgettable experience.
The mission of VBS is to minister to people in the church, create outreach to the surrounding communities, and to create evangelism opportunities. The relationships we develop with children and their families can provide many opportunities to not only show the love of Jesus, but to share the truth of the gospel. Attending and participating in VBS will create faithful growth in your faith.
The ministry meets every Monday at 6-7 pm beginning in January through July via Conference call.
The leaders of VBS are Lillie Coleman and Sonia Blevins. Lillie can be contacted at Cole4350@bellsouth.net and Sonia Blevins can be contacted at Sonianduna@gmail.com.
